Stories in the Air
The BSL Dictionary is a virtual guide to British Sign Language for young children, their parents, teachers and carers. The BSL Dictionary contains 220 signs in 20 categories. The sign language animation and software were produced by Dunedin Multimedia in association with Stories in the Air.
The BSL Dictionary CD-ROMs and web resource were funded through two editions by the Scottish Executive. From 2003 to 2006, Stories in the Air gave over 10,000 free copies of the CD-ROM to schools and families with deaf children across the UK.
The BSL Dictionary 3rd edition CD-ROM is now available. This new edition has all the content of the first two editions, with improved navigation, bug fixes, and updated QuickTime installers.
If you are a parent of a deaf child, a teacher of the deaf, communication support worker, linkworker, classroom assistant or nursery nurse, contact Stories in the Air with your name, address and postcode to obtain a free copy of the CD-ROM.
Due to regional variations within BSL, the signs for numbers and colours used in your area may be different from those shown on the CD-ROM. Ask your BSL tutor for more information.
The online BSL Dictionary requires a high-speed internet connection, the Shockwave plug-in and QuickTime7 (free downloads).
