Stories in the Air
Stories in the Air
BSL Numeracy is an introduction to mathematical concepts in the medium of British Sign Language.
BSL Numeracy 1 was funded by grants from the Gannochy Trust, Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, and the Equitable Charitable Trust. Stories in the Air provided 2000 free copies of the CD-ROM to schools and families with deaf children.
BSL Numeracy 2 teaches signs for contrasting quantities, such as bigger/smaller, more/fewer, nearer/farther, taller/shorter, lighter/darker, faster/slower, and so on. We produced and distributed 2,400 copies of the BSL Numeracy 2 CD-ROM. The project was supported by the Equitable Charitable Trust, Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, and the Rayne Foundation.
BSL Numeracy 3 is available now. This CD-ROM completes the early learning goals for Foundation and Year 1 of the Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy area of the Primary National Strategy for England and Wales, and is fully compatible with the Scottish 5-14 curriculum. The skills covered in BSL Numeracy 3 include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Sorting Shapes, Sorting Patterns, Seeking Patterns, Counting, and Making Connections, all taught in the medium of BSL.
BSL Numeracy 3 includes updated versions of BSL Numeracy 1 and BSL Numeracy 2. BSL Numeracy 3 also includes a bonus disc with updated versions of the earlier Stories in the Air publications, BSL Dictionary, Sign Bridge to Literacy: Alphabet and Fingerspelling, Sign Bridge to Literacy: Signing Phonics and Sign Bridge to Literacy: Spelling and Sentences.
We are grateful to the Equitable Charitable Trust, Foyle Foundation and HBOS Foundation for their support of BSL Numeracy 3 and our work for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, their families and schools. The CD-ROM was produced by Dunedin Multimedia in close cooperation with Stories in the Air.
